Beckles was awarded the Bronze Star Medal with “V” device for valor for his actions while deployed in support of Operation Resolute Support in Afghanistan, August 16, 2017. Beckles was attached to the National Guard’s 5th Battalion, 19th Special Forces Group (Airborne) when he exposed himself repeated to heavy enemy fire to defend the evacuation of thirteen casualties. The 5th Bn., 19th SFG(A) is headquartered in Colorado. During Sgt. Beckles speech upon receiving his award, he expressed his emotions and gratitude of appreciation towards the Soldiers that were lost in his attached unit.
