Educators from New Jersey and New York listen to the “Drill Instructor Speech” during an educators’ workshop March 28, 2018, on Marine Corps Recruit Depot Parris Island, S.C. Every recruit will hear the speech on their “pickup day,” which marks the first official training day for the recruits and the day they will meet the drill instructors charged with training them and transforming them into United States Marines.
