U.S. Marine Corps Sgt. Robert Salinas, a drill instructor with Support Battalion, Recruit Training Regiment, lines the educators up in front of the silver hatches of the recruit receiving facility March 28, 2018, on Marine Corps Recruit Depot Parris Island, S.C., during an educators’ workshop. Above the hatches are the words “through these portals pass prospects for America's finest fighting force United States Marines.” The privilege of passing through the silver hatches is reserved solely for those who have made the commitment to enlist in the Marines. The educators will pass through the doors on the left and right of them before learning about what awaits recruits after they exit the bus.
