U.S. Marine Corps Sgt. Robert Salinas, a drill instructor with Support Battalion, Recruit Training Regiment, orders educators to get off the bus March 28, 2018, on Marine Corps Recruit Depot Parris Island, S.C., during an educators’ workshop. This is how every young man or woman arrives on Parris Island before officially beginning recruit training. For the educators, it’s their first glimpse into life as a recruit and the beginning of their three-day journey. Before their time is done, they will have learned basic drill, shot on the rifle range, dined with recruits, overcome the confidence course, and taken part in the Crucible before finally viewing the graduation of more than 500 new Marines.
