On Feb. 3, Naval Undersea Warfare Center Division Newport's Technical Director Ronald Vien placed eighth out of 30 firefighters in his age category and 84th out of 440 firefighters overall in the Fight for Air Climb Boston, a stair-climbing event sponsored by the American Lung Association. Vien climbed 41 stories, or 789 stairs, in 11 minutes 6 seconds with full uniform and a Self-Contained Breathing Apparatus, totaling 50 pounds of gear.
