U.S. Army Reserve Soldiers with the 468th Engineer Detachment, based in Danvers, Mass., conduct a search and extraction mission by a subway platform during Guardian Response 18 at Muscatatuck Urban Training Center, Ind., April 11, 2018. Getting into the subway system was no easy task. Once the engineers drilled into the concrete above the subway platform, they had to construct an A-frame using two ladders in order to support the weight of a Soldier going down through the opening and ultimately extract any mannequins found below.
More than 4,500 Soldiers from across the country are participating in Guardian Response 18, a multi-component training exercise to validate U.S. Army units’ ability to support the Defense Support of Civil Authorities (DSCA) in the event of a Chemical, Biological, Radiological, and Nuclear (CBRN) catastrophe.
