HILO, Hawaii (April 7, 2018) -- The Pacific Fleet Band performs during the Merrie Monarch Festival Parade in downtown Hilo on Saturday April 7. The Navy recognizes that the Merrie Monarch Festival honors the legacy left by King David Kalākaua, who inspired the perpetuation of Hawaiian traditions, native language and arts. King Kalākaua negotiated a treaty with the United States that led to the Navy’s presence at Pearl Harbor. (U.S. Navy Photo by Mass Communication Specialist 1st Class Corwin M. Colbert)
