The crossing the line ceremony is a naval tradition that recognizes when members of the crew cross the equator for the first time. Mount Whitney, forward-deployed to Gaeta, Italy, operates with a combined crew of U.S. Navy Sailors and Military Sealift Command civil service mariners.
