SANTA ISABEL, Puerto Rico, Feb. 16, 2018--Employees from a farming company fill a transport with large quantities of tomatoes to be taken to the packaging factory. During the months of January to April around 800 acres are planted. 75% of the crops are exported to the U.S. and the remaining 25% are used for local consumption. All this production was at risk due to the lack of electric power due to Hurricane María. The efforts made by Tiffany Greenidge, Econ RSF Interagency Recovery Coordinator, Juan Bauzá, EDR/Economic RSF and the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers, it was possible to restore electric service and the factory was able to return to normal operations and assure the retention of 800 positions, helping stabilize the economy of a region that urgently needs employment opportunities. FEMA/Eduardo Martinez.
