Chaplain (Maj.) Thomas Tracy, of the 164th Infantry Regiment, was called “Foxhole Padre” by the Soldiers he served with on Guadalcanal. He earned a Bronze Star Medal for heroism for his actions there. The citation read, “Chaplain Tracy repreatedly disregarded his own safety and traversed difficult terrain under enemy gunfire to offer guidance and encouragement to troops in foxholes and dugouts.” (Released)
