Jon Peterson speaks to children about the power of education at the Kennecott Youth Center at Joint Base Elmendorf-Richardson, Alaska, March 7, 2018. Jon was recognized as this year’s Boys and Girls Clubs of America Military Youth of the Year for the state of Alaska and awarded a $5,000 scholarship. The program is designed to promote service to club, community and family, academic success, strong moral character, life goals and poise and public speaking. Jon will now compete at the Pacific Air Forces regional level for a chance to win a $40,000 scholarship and an invitation to compete at the national level.
