A Soldier assigned to the 1st Battalion, 244th Aviation Regiment (Assault) and Marine Sgt Ramon Valencia, assigned to the 1st Law Enforcement Battalion, I Marine Expeditionary Force play with Specialized Search Dog Red prior to medical evacuation training Jan. 18, 2018 at Camp Buehring. The SSD is one of the four types of Military Working Dogs that work with their Marine handlers to detect Improvised Explosive Devices, explosive components, and weapon caches. This joint training familiarizes flight medics with proper transport and triage of MWDs, injured handlers and patients, which falls in line with the Operation Spartan Shield’s mission as a combined forces contingency operation within Central Command's area of responsibility.
