Chief Aviation Structural Mechanic Diego Diaz, a 1993 graduate of Memorial High School in West New York, New Jersey, retired from the U.S. Navy, Jan. 5, after 21 years of service during a ceremony with Sailors, friends, and family at the American Legion Post 116 in Edgewater, New Jersey. Diaz served at four helicopter combat squadrons and qualified as a Master Training Specialist while in the Navy. During Diaz's final tour at Navy Recruiting District New York, he served as the medical division's leading chief petty officer. Diaz was awarded the Navy and Marine Corps Commendation Medal during the ceremony and had previously received six Navy and Marine Corps Achievement Medals.
