Lt. Col. William Baker (standing), a medical observer coach/trainer with First Army's 120th Infantry Brigade, talks with Capt. Matt Gabler, medical logistics officer for the Pennsylvania Army National Guard’s 28th Infantry Division, during the 28th ID’s culminating training exercise at Fort Hood, Texas, Jan. 30, 2018. “(The 28th ID's) surgeon section is pretty robust, across the board, which will help them out eventually. They’re engaged, building maps and looking at medevac routes," said Baker, one of dozens of First Army personnel supporting the CTE before the 28th ID deploys to the Middle East. "Right off hand, I think they’re doing a great job," he said. "I think they’ll have a good deployment."
Gabler, from DuBois, Penn., has an unusual civilian career: he represents the state's 75th District in the Pennsylvania House of Representatives. “I’m glad to be able to do what I trained for," he said. "To receive the call to do a real-world mission is a great honor.”
