U.S. Air Force Airman 1st Class Joseph Dumdei, 532nd Expeditionary Operations Support Squadron, runs to first base during a softball game May 27, 2011, at Al Asad Air Base, Iraq. The ballpark started as a patch of uneven, unclaimed desert at the base in western Al Anbar province. The airmen, with the help of soldiers, sailors and civilian contractors, added lights, fences and dugouts. In the end, the finished product was a slice of Americana ready for the first game by opening day of the 2011 Major League Baseball season.
