A CH-47 Chinook helicopter from Company B, 2nd Battalion 238th Aviation, based in Peoria, Ill., picks up several large sand bags to be placed along the rising Missouri River near Dakota Dunes, S.D. National Guard soldiers from South Dakota, Illinois and Iowa have been placed on state active duty to assist local and state authorities in the western Iowa and southeast South Dakota to protect private properties and municipalities along the swollen Missouri River.
