Army 1st Lt. Christopher Bilec, Regional Support Command – North assistant engineer, and Air Force Master Sgt. Phil Harkleroad, non-commissioned officer-in-charge of Regional Support Command – North engineering, paint the dome at the Mike Spann memorial at Qala-i-Jangi, near Mazar-e-Sharif, Northern Afghanistan. Spann was the first American casualty in Afghanistan and the memorial was constructed in honor of Spann by Northern Alliance General Abdul Rashid Dostum for his sacrifice during a Taliban uprising at the 19th century fort.
