A 1st Security Force Assistance Brigade Soldier acting as a casualty hit by vehicle-born improvised explosive device is extracted from the mission site at the Joint Readiness Training Center Jan. 23, 2018, at Fort Polk, La. The 1st SFAB conducted training as part of a month-long rotation in preparation for their upcoming deployment to provide training and advising assistance to Afghan National Security Forces. Security Force Assistance Brigades allow the Army to reduce demand on conventional brigade combat teams, over time, for combat advising; increasing brigade combat team readiness for current and emerging threats.
