MARINE CORPS BASE CAMP PENDLETON, Calif. – Japanese Soldiers with the Western Army Infantry Regiment, Japan Ground Self Defense Force, fast rope out out of an MV-22 Osprey during exercise Iron Fist 2018, Jan. 23. Marines can use fast roping to quickly insert Marines into an objective area not suitable for a landing zone, such as the deck of a ship. Iron Fist is an annual, bilateral training exercise where U.S. and Japanese service members train together and share techniques, tactics and procedures to improve their combined operational capabilities.
