MARINE CORPS BASE CAMP PENDLETON, Calif. –Soldiers with the Western Army Infantry Regiment, Japan Ground Self Defense Force, pull a fast rope as an MV-22 Osprey lands during fast rope training during exercise Iron Fist 2018, Jan. 23. When conducting multiple repetitions of fast rope training, the Soldiers will pull the rope taunt as the helicopter lands in order to keep the rope from lashing about in the aircraft's rotor wash. Iron Fist is an annual, bilateral training exercise where U.S. and Japanese service members train together and share techniques, tactics and procedures to improve their combined operational capabilities.
