MARINE CORPS BASE CAMP PENDLETON, Calif. –A Soldier with the Western Army Infantry Regiment, Japan Ground Self Defense Force, signals his team to move up as as an MV-22 Osprey lands during fast rope training during exercise Iron Fist 2018, Jan. 23. When conducting multiple fast rope training repetitions, the Soldiers on the ground will hold onto the rope and move to ensure the rope has the right amount of slack so it won't lash about in the aircraft's rotor wash. Iron Fist is an annual, bilateral training exercise where U.S. and Japanese service members train together and share techniques, tactics and procedures to improve their combined operational capabilities.
