    MARINE CORPS BASE CAMP PENDLETON, Calif. – Soldiers with the Western Army Infantry Regiment, Japan Ground Self Defense Force, secure a fast roping rope shortly after exiting an MV-22 Osprey during fast rope training during exercise Iron Fist 2018, Jan. 23. Marines can use fast roping to quickly insert Marines into an objective area not suitable for a landing zone, such as the deck of a ship. Iron Fist is an annual, bilateral training exercise where U.S. and Japanese service members train together and share techniques, tactics and procedures to improve their combined operational capabilities.
