MARINE CORPS BASE CAMP PENDLETON, Calif. – Soldiers with the Western Army Infantry Regiment, Japan Ground Self Defense Force, secure the fast rope after fast roping out of the back of an MV-22 Osprey during exercise Iron Fist 2018, Jan. 23. When fast roping, the first few Soldiers secure the bottom of the roping using their body weight in order to provide more stability to their follow on Soldiers. Iron Fist is an annual, bilateral training exercise where U.S. and Japanese service members train together and share techniques, tactics and procedures to improve their combined operational capabilities.
