SASEBO, Japan (Jan. 17, 2018) Sailors place metal shoring on a bulkhead to repair simulated structural damage during a ready-for-sea drill aboard the amphibious assault ship USS Bonhomme Richard (LHD 6). The drill is in advance of an upcoming Naval Surface Forces-led two-day Readiness for Sea Assessment that assesses crew proficiency in propulsion, navigation and watch team proficiency, and certifies a ship as deployment ready. Bonhomme Richard, forward-deployed to Sasebo, Japan, is serving forward to provide a rapid-response capability in the event of a regional contingency or natural disaster.
