Sacramento District continues its Federal Emergency Management Agency directed mission to remove non-household hazardous waste from residential lots in Sonoma, Napa, Lake and Mendocino counties in Northern California after the devastating wildfires in October 2017. In Lake County, contractors have removed more than 21,400 tons of debris.
The Consolidated Debris Removal Program is a two-phased process – Phase 1 was the removal of household hazardous waste (HHW) by the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) and the California Department of Toxic Substance Control. Phase 2 is the removal other fire-related debris from structures destroyed by the fire and is managed by the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers.
