CBIRF provides CBRNE response capabilities to JTF-NCR during 58th Presidential Inauguration

WASHINGTON – Former President Barack Obama departs aboard Marine One after the 58th Presidential Inauguration, Jan. 20, 2017. Initial Response Force A, Chemical Biological Incident Response Force, assumed the ready position working under JTF-NCR which provided military support to the lead agency the U.S. Secret Service during the 58th Presidential Inauguration in Washington D.C., Jan. 20, 2017. The Inauguration was designated a National Special Security Event, NSSE, by the Secretary of the Department of Homeland Security on July 2016. When an event is designated an NSSE, the U.S. Secret Service assumes its mandated role as the lead federal agency for the design and implementation of the operational security plan. Although elements of CBIRF were staged near the U.S. Capitol building, other elements of CBIRF were on standby at CBIRF headquarters, making the Inauguration supported by the entire CBIRF unit.
