U.S Marines with 2nd Battalion, 1st Marine Regiment, 3rd Marine Division were awarded the Navy and Marine Corps Achievement Medal December 8, 2017, on Camp Schwab in Okinawa, Japan, for their superior overall performance in the 3rd Marine Division Annual Squad Competition. The squad competition was conducted to test and compare each unit to see which is the fittest for combat. The squads are with 1st Battalion, 8th Marine Regiment; 2nd Battalion, 1st Marine Regiment; 1st Battalion, 3rd Marine Regiment and Combat Assault Battalion.
