Todd M. Richards, a technician aboard a hurricane hunter aircraft, answers the questions of Lance Cpl. Victor M. Jemester, left, Cpl. Jacob Johnson, middle, and Lance Cpl. Kenneth F. Boatwright, right, aboard a "hurricane hunter" aircraft during the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration’s visit to Cherry Point. The role of the hurricane hunter is to fly into a storm and drop scientific instruments to gather information on the weather conditions inside the storm. Forecasters will take that information and make more accurate predictions, enabling communities to prepare for storms that they might not have known were heading that way.
