Lance Cpl. Kacy Kennedy, from Monticello, Ky., assigned to the 22nd Marine Expeditionary Unit, empties plastic waste from a shredder in the ship’s trash room aboard the amphibious dock landing ship USS Whidbey Island. The plastic is then fed into the compact melt unit where it is made into compact discs that can be recycled. The Whidbey Island is deployed as part of the Bataan Amphibious Ready Group, supporting maritime security operations and theater security cooperation effort in the U.S. 6th Fleet area of responsibility.
