171119-N-HI376-125 PHILIPPINE SEA (Nov. 19, 2017) Boatswain’s Mate 3rd Class Vincent Tate, from Tupelo, Miss., conducts vertical replenishment (VERTREP) operations with an SA 330 Puma helicopter, assigned to the dry cargo and ammunition ship USNS Wally Schirra (T-AKE-8), on the flight deck of the forward-deployed Arleigh Burke-class guided-missile destroyer USS Stethem (DDG 63) during Annual Exercise 2017 (AE17). AE17, the premiere training event between the U.S. Navy and the Japan Maritime Self-Defense Force, is designed to increase the defensive readiness and interoperability of Japanese and American Forces through training in air and sea operations.
