ARABIAN GULF – Lance Cpl. Carlos OrtizCastro, attached to the 15th Marine Expeditionary Unit, holds a photo of his newborn daughter aboard amphibious assault ship USS America (LHA6), Oct. 19, 2017. While in port Ortiz was able to connect his smart phone to a wireless signal to Facetime with his wife, Genesis, who was nine months pregnant with their first child. As fate would have it, he called, Oct. 8, 2017, while she was in the middle of giving birth. The 15th MEU is embarked with the America Amphibious Ready Group and is deployed to maintain regional security in the U.S. 5th Fleet area of operations.
