Diaz, a squad leader with Kilo Company, 3rd Battalion, 3rd Marine Regiment, a Bronze Star Medal with Combat V. Diaz received the award for heroic achievement in connection with combat operations against the enemy during Operation Enduring Freedom in Afghanistan, Sept. 17, 2010.
