Sandra Lewis, the niece of Marine Corps Pvt. Vernon Paul Keaton, wipes tears away after speaking with Gunnery Sgt. Nicholas Brundige, Assistant Marine Corps funeral director, Marine Headquarters Barracks, Washington, D.C., in a secluded section of Will Rogers World Airport November 14, 2017, Oklahoma City, Oklahoma. Lewis is the nearest living relative to Keaton who was killed Dec. 7, 1941, during the Japanese attack on Pearl Harbor, Hawaii. Keaton’s remains were recently positively identified by the Department of Defense for internment and Gunnery Sgt. Brundige escorted the remains to Oklahoma City for turn-over to the family.
