Pat Goldhahn-Norbury, U.S. Department of Agriculture, Forest Service lead plane pilot, explains MAFFS operations to Arthur Hinaman, U.S. Forest Service, Assistant Director of Operations of Fire and Aviation, during a visit to Dyess Air Force Base, Texas, April 28, 2011. The Modular Airborne Firefighting System (MAFFS) is housed aboard a C-130 Hercules and is capable of dispensing 3,000 gallons of water or fire retardant in less than 5 seconds. The Forest Service requested the assistance of the U.S. Air Force to control and extinguish wildfires that have spread to various parts of Texas.
