Children begin classes at the newly reopened primary school near Raqqah Nov. 9, 2017. The school educates more than 800 children between morning and afternoon sessions. It was rehabilitated with nongovernmental organizations support and careful coordination by the Raqqah Civil Council’s Education Committee. The RCC is working with a number of NGOs to ensure schools are refurbished and educators are trained and paid. The ability to educate Syria’s youth is critical in countering the brutal ISIS ideology they were subjected to for so many years. (Courtesy photo by U.S. Special Operations Command)
