U.S. Air Force Lt. Col. Tom Brown, MAFFS mission commander, shows one of the areas that wildfires are buring while explaining the Air National Guard's involvement in the firefighting operations at Dyess Air Force Base, Texas, April 19. Airmen from California Air National Guard's 146th Airlift Wing, North Carolina Air National Guard's 145th Airlift Wing and Wyoming Air National Guard's 153rd Airlift Wing maintain and operate the Modular Airborne Firefighting System housed aboard a C-130 Hercules. MAFFS is capable of dispensing 3,000 gallons of water or fire retardant in under 5 seconds.
