In the aftermath of Hurricane Maria, severe flooding destroyed bridges in the area and left residents with limited accessibility. The construction of the girdle bridge, scheduled to begin Oct. 27, is a combined effort between U.S. Army Corps of Engineers and the 892nd MRBC to provide residents with access to neighboring cities.
