Vice President Mike Pence shakes hands with Lt.Col. Howard L. Gerlach, U.S. Marine Corps, retired, during a Beirut Memorial Parade at Marine Barracks Washington D.C., Oct. 23, 2017. Gerlach was the commanding officer of 1st Battalion, 8th Marines in 1983 when the terrorist attack occurred.
