Gerlach, U.S. Marine Corps, retired, down center walk during a Beirut Memorial Parade at the Barracks, Oct. 23, 2017. Gerlach was the commanding officer of 1st Battalion, 8th Marines in 1983 when the terrorist attack occurred. The ceremony was conducted to honor the 34th anniversary of the attack on the U.S. and French Barracks in Beirut and remember the fallen service members, survivors and their families.
