David Smith, commander, 158th Fighter Wing, Vermont Air National Guard presents an American flag on behalf of himself and the members of the Vermont Air National Guard to Amy Stuart, Coordinator of Academic Services at Community College of Vermont, during a retreat ceremony at the Vermont Air National Guard Base, South Burlington Vt., Oct. 15, 2017. Retreat is a traditional military musical ceremony carried out at the end of the duty day, originating in the playing of drums and bugles to tell soldiers to return to camp for the night and serves as a ceremony for paying respect to the flag.
