Cmdr. Ken Uyesugi, chairman of optometry, performs a slit lamp biomicroscopic examination during a routine eye exam on Petty Officer 3rd Class Christopher Dunbar, a pediatric corpsman, at Naval Medical Center San Diego. This exam looks at the front part of the eye to check for cataracts, scars and any foreign bodies inside the eye. The optometry clinic at NMCSD is the largest in Navy Medicine, employing 12 providers and seeing 16-25 patients daily. The clinic performed examinations on 120 patients today, as well as created over 300 pairs of prescription glasses for active duty, dependents and retirees.
