Cmdr. Uyesugi, chairman of optometry, performs a binocular indirect ophthalmoscopy examination during a routine eye exam on Petty Officer 3rd Class Andrew Harris at Naval Medical Center San Diego. This exam looks at the retina to check for holes, tears and lesions. The optometry clinic at NMCSD is the largest in Navy Medicine, employing 12 providers and seeing 16-25 patients daily. The clinic performed examinations on 120 patients today, as well as created over 300 pairs of prescription glasses for active duty, dependents and retirees.
