Prime Minister Naoto Kan visits the Joint Task Force - Tohoku at Camp Sendai, Japan. Present, as well, are Gen. Ryoichi Oriki, chief of staff of the Japan Ground Self Defense Force; Adm. Patrick Walsh, commanding general of the Joint Support Forces - Japan; Lt. Gen. Eiji Kimizuka, commanding general, JGSDF North-Eastern Regional Army; Lt. Gen. Burton Field, commanding general, U.S. Forces Japan; Brig. Gen. William Crowe, deputy commanding general, U.S. Forces Japan; Col. Craig Timberlake, commanding general of the III Marine Expeditionary Brigade; and Col. Allan Neyland, commander of the Joint Forces Land Component Command (Forward). Kan and Walsh addressed the Japanese and American forces who are currently working together as part of Operation Tomodachi. Operation Tomodachi is the active campaign to restore Japan after the Earthquake and Tsunami that devastated Honshu's North-Eastern coast on March 11, 2011.
