171013-N-RD713-104 SASEBO, Japan (Oct. 13, 2017) Aviation Boatswain’s Mate (Handling) 1st Class Ricardo Lopez Rodriguez from Caguas, Puerto Rico, assigned to the amphibious assault ship USS Bonhomme Richard (LHD 6), participates in a softball game during a command-sponsored sports day held at Nimitz Park, U.S. Fleet Activities Sasebo, as part of a celebration of the U.S. Navy’s 242nd birthday. To celebrate the Navy and build command unity, Sailors competed in a variety of team events, including soccer, flag football, softball, ultimate frisbee, kickball, volley ball, tug-of-war, and a relay race. Bonhomme Richard, forward-deployed to Sasebo, Japan, is serving forward to provide a rapid-response capability in the event of a regional contingency or natural disaster.
