    The Ranch House

The Ranch House is an important part of Camp Pendleton’s history. The house and its history date back to 1810 when the Pio Pico family began construction on what is now the chapel and the home. The chapel has made many transitions throughout its existence going from a temporary home during construction to a winery then a tool shed.

The U.S government took possession of the land in 1942 and transitioned the tool shed into the chapel for women Marines the next year. Commanding generals of Camp Pendleton have called the Ranch House home until the facility was opened to the public in 2007. Today the Ranch House is a historical museum that offers tours through out the year. (Official Marine Corps photo by Sgt Hector de Jesus)
