170922-N-UK248-080 U.S. 5TH FLEET AREA OF OPERATIONS (Sept. 22, 2017) Seaman Miguel Mendez, a native of Orlando, acting as landing signalman (LSE), aboard the amphibious dock landing ship USS Pearl Harbor (LSD 52), directs an MH-60S Sea Hawk helicopter, assigned to the “Wildcards” of Helicopter Sea Combat (HSC) Squadron 23, during flight operations on the ship’s flight deck. Pearl Harbor is part of the America Amphibious Ready Group (ARG) and, with the embarked 15th Marine Expeditionary Unit (MEU), is deployed in support of maritime security operations and theater security cooperation efforts in the U.S. 5th Fleet area of operations.
