170927-N-UK248-037 U.S. 5TH FLEET AREA OF OPERATIONS (Sept. 27, 2017) Hospital Corpsman 3rd Class Willie Washington (right), a native of Landover, Maryland, assigned to the amphibious dock landing ship USS Pearl Harbor (LSD 52), explains how to properly treat an injured crew member to Ship’s Serviceman 3rd Class Stephanie Pyka (center), a native of San Jose, California, and Culinary Specialist 3rd Class Jeffrey Thomas (left), a native of Atlanta, during a simulated medical training team (MTT) “man down” drill on the ship’s mess decks. The “man down” MTT drill was conducted to access the crew’s response to simulated medical scenarios and provide proper training on how to respond and assist injured crew members. Pearl Harbor is part of the America Amphibious Ready Group (ARG) and, with the embarked 15th Marine Expeditionary Unit (MEU), is deployed in support of maritime security operations and theater security cooperation efforts in the U.S. 5th Fleet area of operations.
