U.S. Marine Lance Cpl. Raymundo A. Ruiz and Lance Cpl. Stephen D. Buffington, both machine gunners with Battalion Landing Team, 3rd Battalion, 5th Marines, 31st Marine Expeditionary Unit, inspect M240B machine guns during KAMANDAG at Colonel Ernesto P. Ravina Air Base, Philippines on Oct. 5, 2017. Elements of the 31st Marine Expeditionary Unit are currently in support of the 3rd Marine Expeditionary Brigade, participating in exercise KAMANDAG. Bilateral exercises such as KAMANDAG increase the ability of the United States and the Philippines to rapidly respond and work together during real world terrorist or humanitarian crises, in order to accomplish the mission, support the local population and help mitigate human suffering.
