U.S. Army Reserve Sgt. Major Nelson Ildefonso, the Chief Medical Noncommissioned Officer with Federal Coordinating Center Augusta, has a conversation with an evacuated medical patient from the Virgin Islands in an ambulance Oct. 2 at the Columbia Metropolitan Airport in Columbia, S. C. Ildefonso worked with members of the U.S. Army Reserve-led FCC Columbia, the first ever FCC to be activated and recieve patients in the wake of a natural disaster - in this case Hurricane Maria - in Department of Defense history. Idelfonso talked with the patient, an Army veteran, about the patient's experiences in the 82nd Airborne Division. (U.S. Army Reserve photo by Sgt. 1st Class Ryan C. Matson)
