U.S. and Philippine Marines conduct a live fire exercise during KAMANDAG at Colonel Ernesto P. Ravina Air Base, Philippines, October 2, 2017. Elements of Battalion Landing Team, 3rd Battalion, 5th Marines, 31st Marine Expeditionary Unit are currently deployed in support of the 3rd Marine Expeditionary Brigade, participating in exercise KAMANDAG alongside their Armed Forces of the Philippines counterparts. Bilateral exercises such as KAMANDAG increase the ability of the United States and the Philippines to rapidly respond and work together during real world terrorist or humanitarian crises, in order to accomplish the mission, support the local population and help mitigate human suffering.
